Before becoming a city, Rowlett was actually a rural settlement. It was established in the 1840s by Daniel Rowlett and his family in the area around the Red River. They eventually received land grants in Collin County near Allen, and settled in a rural area along Rowlett Creek, which later became known as Rowlett’s Creek.
